Softball (Girls)

Deerfield Academy has proven to be the team to beat in the Western New England Softball League .Over the past three years, the Big Green has posted a 29-10 record, finishing atop the WNESL regular-season standings the past two seasons. The Big Green has continued its impressive play in post-season competition capturing the league championship in 2000, and reaching the finals in 2004, 2005 and 2006.

The team plays a highly competitive 14-16 game schedule against some of the top teams in New England including Miss Porter’s, Choate and Andover. Deerfield also has one of the best softball venues in the prep ranks featuring a grass infield, cut-out basepaths, electronic scoreboard, bleachers and an immaculately manicured outfield.

Becca Melvoin

Becca was born a "fac brat" and spent her first eight years of life at Deerfield. Having left the Pioneer Valley for about twenty years, she's now back on campus as a faculty member, and is excited to have returned. Becca attended Bowdoin College and received an undergraduate degree in sociology and Africana Studies. She then moved to the West Coast and taught middle school history at the Lakeside School. After two years in the Pacific Northwest she returned to the East Coast and earned a master's degree from Brown University in American Civilization and one from Boston College in history. Becca then returned to the classroom. At Beaver Country Day School she taught various history courses ranging from the History of the Middle East to Black Intellectuals to World History in the 20th Century. In the past she's coached soccer, squash, and Ultimate Frisbee, and is happy to be coaching squash and softball at Deerfield. Becca said although Deerfield is definitely different than it was when she was a kid, she couldn't be happier to be back.
