International Service Projects – Summer 2012

South Africa Project

The team will be working in one of the township communities in White River, Mpumalanaga.  Here they will build a classroom for the Masoyi Speical Care Centre.  The team will interact with local youth and school groups and learn about the challenges facing young people in the area.  The team will also do some rafting, visit an elephant conservation project, spend a day in the Kruger National Park and, after the project, spend five days at a wilderness camp learning bush-tracking techniques and spotting wildlife.  (July 10-August 3)

Ladakh Project

The project in 2012 will continue work at the Lamdom Model School in Thiksey, near Leh.  Last year’s team completed two rooms of a new dormitory and also finished the dining room.  The school is in desperate need of more facilities so you’ll be continuing our long-term investment in this community.  The team will work alongside local people and, at the end of the project, take a 4 day trek and visit the Taj Mahal. (July 7-August 2)

Canada Project

This project is situated in the north of British Columbia.  Working with local First Nations communities, the team will spend a week building a hiking trail to glaciers in Seven Sisters Provincial Park; and the second week in local Gitxsan villages doing community work.  The team will also visit salmon-leaps and glaciers during the mid-Project break, complete a 3 day canoe trip on the Kispiox River and learn much about local traditions, stories and cultural arts.  (July 17- August 9)

Peru

The details for this trip are not yet available but it will resemble the project which David Shin worked on last summer.  The dates will be similar to the other projects.
