Character, integrity, and responsible citizenship guide life in the Deerfield community.
We live the goal of celebrating each student’s unique perspective to foster an inclusive educational community.
Deerfield’s program emphasizes students’ roles as leaders in the community and the world.
Deerfield students draw strength from the school community and its promise to offer an extraordinary education.

We offer small, discussion-based courses in a wide range of academic departments. Advanced research opportunities, Alternate Study electives, and 19 AP courses provide students with exceptional academic opportunity.
Our faculty has designed a variety of interdepartmental courses, team-taught by two or more faculty members, to enable students to create new interdisciplinary skill sets. Off-campus study opportunities aim to broaden students’ perspectives and deepen their sense of self in the modern world.
Deerfield graduates are consistently accepted by highly selective liberal arts colleges. Our college acceptance record is an enviable one, but it’s the student, with the assistance of our college advisors, who determines his or her own course.

The Academy’s tradition is held in our sense of place. The historic village of Deerfield in the Connecticut River Valley offers a long and rich American heritage.
At Deerfield, our time-honored traditions foster lifelong bonds founded on personal responsibility, citizenship, and compassion. Gatherings such as school meetings, cookies and cocoa, dorm feeds, and spirited rallies draw the Deerfield community together. Deerfield’s sit-down meals in the Dining Hall are marked by lively conversation and good food.

Deerfield teachers seek to know every child and use that knowledge to advise each student in how to contribute his or her best self to the community.
At Deerfield, teaching extends beyond the classroom to the dining table, the co-curricular activity, and the dormitory. Whether on the playing field or on the stage, our teachers are seen as coaches, and our coaches are seen as teachers.

The Arts play a significant role in the life of the school, both through academic courses and co-curriculars. Deerfield’s visual arts department offers courses in studio art, drawing, painting, photography, videography and architecture. Our performing arts department offers courses in acting, directing, music ensembles, choral ensembles, music theory and production, and dance.
Theater productions, dance performances, music concerts, and art exhibitions help shape each student’s cultural awareness and aesthetic sensitivity.

Deerfield is dedicated to creating a warm and supportive environment for our students. Dorm life fosters a sense of community on campus. Dorm proctors, peer counselors, and peer tutors offer classmates valuable support.
Ninety-five percent of Deerfield students choose to stay on campus over the weekends to take part in student-led activities. Clubs and organizations play a major role in life at the Academy. Student hangouts such as the Greer, the Louis Café, and the dorm provide opportunities for students to strengthen friendships and foster community spirit.

The Community Service Program is active on campus and in local communities. Students may elect service as a co-curricular activity, participate in weekend projects, or travel during school breaks to help communities in need.
Round Square International provides students with the opportunity to extend their commitment to service beyond the school year and across the globe.

Deerfield has a long and proud tradition in athletics. We field over 65 interscholastic teams. Our on-campus athletic facilities include over 95 acres of athletic fields, and our nearby off-campus facilities include a state-of-the-art boathouse, a first-rate golf course, and a downhill skiing site.
Athletics at Deerfield are as much about fostering sportsmanship and camaraderie as they are about honing athletic skill. Our intramural teams allow students of any athletic ability to experience being part of a team.
