How to Apply

Step 4: Take Your Standardized Test

Deerfield considers your academic record as well as your standardized test scores to provide us with the most complete academic portrait possible. All standardized testing organizations provide dates throughout the year to take the tests we require for admission. Please note that required standardized tests must be completed during the academic year in which your application is submitted. Please refer to the grade to which you are applying in the table below for the testing requirement appropriate to your application.

You should take ONE of the following standardized
tests suggested for your year of candidacy:

9th or 10th Grade: SSAT or ISEE
11th Grade: SSAT, ISEE, or PSAT
12th Grade and Post-Graduate: PSAT, SAT, or ACT
International Candidates: TOEFL and/or SSAT or SAT*

*International candidates: Please note that international students applying for 9th, 10th, and 11th grades are welcome to take both the SSAT and the TOEFL if they so desire. International students applying for 12th grade or the post-graduate year are invited to take the SAT in addition to the TOEFL.

If you have questions about our testing requirements for international candidates, please contact our International Application Coordinator, Jose J. Briones at jbriones@deerfield.edu.

How to Submit Your Scores:

SSAT, ISEE or TOEFL: If taking one of these tests, results must be sent directly to Deerfield. Please provide the testing organization with Deerfield’s school code, so your test results, including your writing sample, are sent directly to us.

  • Deerfield’s SSAT school code is 2770.
  • Deerfield’s ISEE school code is 220685.
  • Deerfield’s TOEFL school code is 9577.

To register for a testing date for the SSAT, contact the SSAT testing organization at ssat.org.

To register for a testing date for the TOEFL, you may contact the TOEFL testing organization at ets.org/toefl.

PSAT, SAT Reasoning Test, or ACT: If taking one of these tests, check to see if your test results are included as part of your school transcript. If they are not included on your transcript, please email your score reports or send them via postal mail.
