Join Deerfield alumni, families and friends for our 3rd Annual Day of Service. This year’s locations and partnering organizations:
Boston, MA: Phoenix Charter Academy Network operates schools that challenge disconnected students with rigorous academics and relentless support so that they can recast themselves as resilient, self-sufficient adults in order to succeed in high school, college, and beyond. We will gather at their Chelsea school to repaint indoor spaces and possibly landscape outdoors (weather permitting). Lunch included. This is a kid-friendly location.
Hatfield, MA: The Food Bank of Western Mass serves Berkshire, Franklin, Hampshire and Hampden counties–the largest service area of any food bank in the state. Come work with our community to reduce hunger and increase food security. Lunch included. This is a kid-friendly location.
New York (Brooklyn): PAVE Academy Charter School prepares Kindergarten to 8th grade students to thrive in competitive high schools and four-year colleges. Volunteers will sign-up for math tutoring for the Saturday Academy or helping with other administrative tasks. Lunch included. This is an adult only location, not kid-friendly.
New York (Queens): Homes for the Homeless provides homeless families with the opportunities and support necessary to move out of shelter and live independently. We will meet at The Saratoga Family Inn in Queens to repaint murals and work on other important projects. For this service project, we are asking volunteers to bring a donation of disposable diapers (any size/quantity). This project is accessible by public transportation on the subway then bus. Please plan accordingly. Optional lunch following. This is a 12 years old and up only location, not kid-friendly.
Greater Los Angeles, CA: Food Forward is a volunteer powered grassroots group of Angelenos who care about reconnecting to our food system and making change around urban hunger. We convene at a property we have been invited to and harvest their excess fruits and vegetables, donating 100% to local food pantries across southern California. A site will be chosen based on the number of registrants. Optional lunch following. This is a kid-friendly location.
Washington, DC: This site’s volunteer capacity is full. NO WALK-INS ALLOWED, please. Since 1989 the Alice Ferguson Foundation has removed over 6 million pounds of trash from the Potomac with the help of volunteers like you. We will be joining the foundation’s Annual Potomac River Watershed Cleanup where thousands of dedicated volunteers at hundreds of cleanup sites will work to restore the beauty and integrity of the region. Help make this year the largest cleanup event yet! A site will be chosen based on the number of registrants. Optional lunch following. This location is not suitable for children under seven years old.
