Dance is offered as a co-curricular option at Deerfield and may be taken for any or all three trimesters. Students of all experience levels participate in a variety of technique and Pilates classes. Intermediate and advanced dancers have the opportunity to participate in rehearsals for all of our dance concerts. Exceptions to the two-term interscholastic athletic recommendation are made for any freshmen and sophomore students who are interested in participating in the co-curricular dance program.
Theater is also offered as a co-curricular option throughout the year. Students have the opportunity to be involved as actors, technicians, stage managers, assistant directors, set, sound, lighting, and costume designers. No experience is needed, and everyone is welcome to join the ensemble. Each term, a full-scale production is presented to the campus and local community.
Accomplished student musicians who wish to focus more deeply on their musical studies while also using their talents to serve the greater community may apply for the Music Service co-curricular program. Participants offer several informal outreach performances off campus in the course of a term, which may include performances at retirement homes, community soup kitchens, presentations at schools, etc. Students are strongly encouraged to apply as part of an ensemble and/or to develop collaborative projects during the term, although the main focus of their time will be on developing individual facility with their instruments.
