• Language: The Academic Dean, in consultation with the Language Department Chair, will consider petitions to satisfy the 3-year requirement with 2 years each of 2 languages. Students for whom English is a 2nd Language have NO Foreign Language requirement.

• History: Non-U.S. History taken prior to Junior year AND U.S. History taken in junior year. NOTE: Economics does not fulfill either part of this requirement.

While students who enter Deerfield as juniors are not strictly held to these requirements, the school believes they offer appropriate guidelines and expects all students to fulfill them as best they can. One-year seniors and post-graduates have only one Deerfield diploma requirement: they must take a full year of English.
