Registration Guidelines

During the summer, returning or new Deerfield students are sent a registration packet, which includes information on how to register for classes. Course registration forms are due to the Registrar two weeks after the student receives them. When registering for courses each student should keep in mind the graduation requirements and program guidelines. Once your course requests are entered in our system, the Academic Dean’s Office will confirm successful registration with you.  In early summer, department chairs will review your record and consider your requests and, in mid-August, we will send you your final schedule.

If at any time after course registration you wish to make a change in your schedule, we ask that you consult with your advisor. You should then fill out the online schedule change request form for submission to the Office of the Academic Dean. Course changes are not automatically granted, but are reviewed with respect to your long-range academic program, as discussed with an advisor, and the limitations of the established class schedule. Ordinarily, any changes must take place within the first two weeks of a term, and all changes must be approved by the Academic Dean.

Course registration can be a daunting task, but rest assured that faculty and advisors will provide guidance and support throughout the process.

If, after you have worked out your program and filled out your course request sheet, you feel ready to engage in long-term program planning, then you can consult the departmental course mapssample four-year programs, and four-year program planning worksheet.
