The Deerfield Day
Deerfield days are busy, and the schedule we keep is perhaps the best and shortest description of the vibrant life of our community. Below, you’ll find a “typical” schedule that outlines some of the daily habits that set Deerfield apart.
| 7:00am | Breakfast: The Dining Hall offers cafeteria-style breakfast each day. On Sundays, brunch is served starting at 10:30am. |
| 8:30am | Classes: The class day is divided into seven periods ranging in length from 45 to 70 minutes.The sequencing of class periods rotates each day of the week; most classes meet four times per week. |
| 10:45am | School Meeting: On Wednesdays, the entire school meets for announcements, skits, and special presentations. |
| Noon | Lunch: Students and faculty enjoy family style “sit-down” lunches on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. On Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday, cafeteria-style “walk through” lunches are served. |
| 12:40pm | Classes: Periods five, six, and seven typically host performing arts and special “double period” classes. |
| 3:45–5:30pm | Co-Curricular Activities: Athletic practices, theater or dance rehearsals, and community service activities. Athletics and activities are scheduled four afternoons a week. On Wednesday and Saturday afternoons, varsity and sub-varsity teams participate in interscholastic competitions. |
| 6:15pm | Dinner: On Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, students and faculty dress for family-style sit-down meals. All other dinners are cafeteria-style walk through meals. |
| 7:00–7:45pm | Free Time: The after dinner hour is a popular time for extracurricular organizations to meet, and announcements about these meetings are often shared at dinner. Sometimes, the Academy offers events and performance during this time slot. |
| 7:45–9:45pm | Study Hours: Students are obligated to be in a quiet place of study (library, dorm room, extra help session). |
| 7:45pm | Check-in for Underclassmen: All freshmen and sophomores are checked into their dormitories at 7:45pm on weeknights; underclassmen check-in is 10:30pm on Friday and 11:00pm on Saturday. |
| 9:45pm | Check-in for Upperclassmen: All juniors and seniors are checked into their dormitories at 9:45 on weeknights; upperclassmen check-in is 11:00pm on Friday and 11:30pm on Saturday. |
