Stop The Pipeline – Save the Climate!

Come to Washington D.C. next weekend to take part in the largest climate rally in U.S. history! This Sunday, February 17th, 2013, more than 25,000 people will congregate on the National Mall in protest of plans to construct a pipeline carrying highly corrosive crude oil thousands of miles from the northern Alberta tar sands to the Texas shoreline.

This pipeline will facilitate the development of one of the dirtiest sources of oil on the planet, and represents a tremendous hazard as far as greenhouse gas emissions are concerned. Environmental advocacy groups 350.org and the Sierra Club are coordinating this demonstration in an effort not only to stop the pipeline, but also to protest the more general lack of a climate action plan in Washington today.

A coalition of Deerfield students will head down to Washington D.C. this weekend to join the rally. If you are interested in being part of this group, please email Mr. Jewett or Nolan Bishop at jjewett@deerfield.edu or nbishop@deerfield.edu respectively. The Deerfield van is tentatively scheduled to leave at 5 pm Saturday and return very late Sunday night. For more information regarding the rally see the links below:
