Deerfield Academy’s Finance Office is seeking to fill the position of Senior Accountant. Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Accountant is responsible for general accounting, preparation of required tax reports, financial reporting systems, and analytical support for the Academy’s financial statements and general ledger.
Primary responsibilities will include: overseeing and coordinating all general ledger activity and reporting, including chart of account maintenance, addition of new funds and accounts, and electronic journal entries; managing and documenting systems of institutional and accounting controls; planning, organizing and coordinating all activities within the tax function; preparing external reports and surveys; assisting with monthly and annual closing entries and processes, annual financial statements and 403(b) audits, budgeting processes, and miscellaneous financial and organizational matters. In addition, the Senior Accountant will provide reporting for the Academy’s auxiliary financial operations, and perform other duties as assigned.
The successful candidate will possess: a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or other finance related degree (CPA preferred); 5+ years’ experience in an accounting environment, including knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles as they relate to non-profit organizations; demonstrated proficiency and familiarity with a database accounting environment; a high degree of professional character and ethical standards in the performance and delegation of duties; a collaborative work style and team playing approach; and excellent organization and problem solving skills.
