Reporting to the Assistant Director of Food Services, the Food Production Manager provides supervision and training of Dining Hall staff, as well as daily oversight of culinary standards and proper sanitation.
The primary duties for this position include: managing all aspects of food production to meet Academy and departmental needs; effectively directing the work of others ensuring smooth operations; communicating and enforcing departmental and institutional policies and practices; training new employees and re-training existing employees as needed to increase performance and productivity; monitoring production to control food costs and ensuring a consistent product; maintaining computerized production records, including the forecasting, ordering and summarizing of all catered events to ensure accurate accounting; practicing, promoting and communicating safety in the workplace through own work performance, to help ensure that other departmental employees do the same.
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Culinary Arts, Food Service Management, Hospitality or related degree or equivalent, at least 5 years of culinary training and experience, possess ServeSafe certification, ability to perform multiple tasks under stressful situations, strong computer skills, excellent communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to problem solve, multi-task and be flexible.
Deerfield Academy is situated in the middle of Historic Deerfield, a colonial village in western Massachusetts. The Academy is one of the most selective independent schools in the country, enrolling 630 students and employing 350 faculty and staff. The Academy’s Food Services staff of 50 regular plus 20 intermittent employees prepares and serves over 1800 meals per day during the academic year, plus a variety of special events for large groups year round.
