Last Mountain Film Screening

What happens to the mountains of West Virginia every time you turn on the lights? Come find out at the screening of the award-winning documentary The Last Mountain, which looks at the struggle against mountaintop removal coal mining. The electric utilities in Western Massachusetts (including the one DA uses) purchase coal from companies that use mountaintop removal, which connects our community with those in Appalachia. The Last Mountain was an official selection of the Sundance Film Festival (2011) and was called “stunningly effective” by the Seattle Times.

“The fight for the last great mountain in America’s Appalachian heartland pits the mining giant that wants to explode it to extract the coal within, against the community fighting to preserve the mountain and build a wind farm on its ridges instead. The Last Mountain highlights a battle for the future of energy that affects us all.” – Uncommon Productions
