Job Posting: Director of Food Services

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director of Food Services is responsible for leading and administering all aspects of the Academy’s food service program, supervising a team to produce an efficient food service operation of the highest quality, and the short and long term budgeting, staffing, purchasing, and meal delivery for the Academy’s food services and stores.

The primary duties for this position include: hiring, developing, and retaining a high quality staff; menu development; maintaining high standards of sanitation and employee safety; planning and execution of catered special events; preparing and monitoring budgets and financial controls for multiple cost centers; coordinating departmental equipment maintenance and building repairs; participating in long term planning and associated capital expenditures; overseeing the food services’ CBORD software, Odyssey Point of Sale system and Micros Cash Register system.

The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in institutional food service management or a closely related field (Registered, Licensed Dietician preferred), at least 5 years of management and supervisory experience in a complex academic environment, demonstrated ability to be an effective team leader, strong computer skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to problem solve, multi task and be flexible.

Deerfield Academy is situated in the middle of Historic Deerfield, a colonial village in western Massachusetts. The Academy is one of the most selective independent schools in the country, enrolling 630 students and employing 350 faculty and staff. The Academy’s Food Services staff of 50 regular plus 20 intermittent employees prepares and serves over 1800 meals per day during the academic year, plus a variety of special events for large groups year round.
