Deerfield Academy’s Finance Office is seeking to fill the position of Controller. Reporting to the Director of Business Services, the Controller oversees the accounting and tax activities of the Academy and is responsible for timely and accurate reporting of financial data in accordance with policies, laws, regulations and generally accepted accounting principles.

Primary responsibilities will include, overseeing the analysis and resolution of complex accounting issues, managing the annual financial audit and annual 403b audit processes including preparation of financial statements, managing and documenting accounting controls, ensuring compliance with auditing standards and regulatory requirements, overseeing annual tax filings, directing the maintenance of fixed asset system including determination of depreciation rates and recording of capital assets in the general ledger and coordinating general ledger reporting of endowment data. This position is also responsible for supervising the finance department staff and maximizing the utilization of department members’ skills and needs.

Required job specifications include: an Accounting or other finance related degree (CPA and/or Masters’ degree preferred); 10+ years’ experience preferably in a not-for-profit environment; demonstrated proficiency and familiarity with MS Office Suite and a database accounting environment, preferably Banner or similar ERP system; high degree of professional character and ethical standards in the performance and delegation of duties, and the desire and ability to be a team player and collaborate with others successfully. Supervisory experience required.
