Who Founded This Controversial Movement?

In celebration of Black History Month, the Deerfield Black Student Alliance (DBSA) is collaborating with the staff of the Boyden Library to create weekly questions that will focus upon significant figures who improved the life for blacks in America.

The question for the third week of our contest is:

This Oakland California resident, still  living, was an original Chicago Eight defendant and a founder of the controversial movement, popular in the 60′s and 70′s, that took political action and preached self defense all for the goal of bettering the lives blacks in America.

Who is he?

Be sure to drop off your answer in the Question of the Week Box located at the entrance of our library. Good luck!

From all the correct answers, a winner will be drawn and a prize will be awarded on February 24, 2012.
