CISA Assists Local Farms After Irene

Though it’s been more than two months since tropical storm Irene moved through the Northeast, many in this area are still struggling to restore their land to working conditions. Deerfield Academy’s playing fields are still under repair, and up- and down-stream from campus, farmers are struggling with lost crops, deep silt deposits, and acres of land that may not be farmable for years to come. In late October, CISA (Community Involved in Sustaining Agriculture) established the Emergency Farm Fund to assist farmers in the aftermath of the storm and flooding. Businesses and organizations from Whole Foods to Deerfield Academy have made contributions, but CISA is still working towards its goal of raising at least $100,000 for the fund.
