2011 Brush Invitational @ Northfield Mount Hermon – 9/17
With Deerfield’s home course being patrolled by dump trucks toting away tons of Deerfield river silt, our friends at Northfield Mount Hermon were kind enough to host the 2011 edition of the Peter Brush invitational today. Though the morning dawned with a Berkshire briskness in the air, the afternoon was sun-splashed and warm up on the hill in Northfield, and the invitational was a glowing example of friendly competition to start the 2011 cross country season.
Deerfield’s boys led the way in the Junior/Senior race, capturing four of the top five places and placing their top seven in the top 25 overall. Junior Ben Wood won the race in an exciting finish (17:42), followed closely by Robert Beit ’13 in third place (17:44). Co-captain Fred Quesada ’12 and George Reich ’13 crossed the line together a few seconds later in 4th and 5th place (18:01). Warner Brown ’13 rounded out the top five in the upperclass race, finishing 13th in 19:07. Ryan Heffernan ’12 finished 23rd (20:08), followed closely by Charlie Wilson ’12 in 25th place (20:11) and co-captain Brad Marshall ‘12 in 26th (20:13). A newcomer to cross country, Teddy Romeyn ’13 finished 28th in 20:29, and returning senior Mohan Yin finished 29th (20:37). John Lamb ’12 rounded out Deerfield’s Junior/Senior entrants, finishing in 22:52.
In the Freshman/Sophomore race, Reed Horton ’14 paced Deerfield’s three entrants, finishing 5th overall (19:00). New sophomore David Hamilton wasn’t far behind, finishing 10th in 20:46. Nate Lane ’14 rounded out the underclass crew with a 27th place finish (22:46).
The season is off to a great start with the challenging Canterbury Invitational looming next weekend. Deerfield will send its top seven runners to the invitational for some top-notch competition.
