500 Year Flood?

The Deerfield River flooding experienced from Hurricane Irene was more extreme than any we’ve seen in years–if not generations. An area hydrogeologist said that the odds of a flood like this happening more than once every few hundred years are slim. Others are calling it a 500-year flood.

Deerfield Academy was fortunate that most of main campus remained dry. However, the lower levels and some faculty homes along Main Street were inundated with river waters that still have not completely receded. Thanks are due to members of the Physical Plant who are now hard at work restoring the track, playing fields, tennis courts, homes, and roadways as much as possible before students return next week.
