You Just Don’t Understand!

Do you ever think that teachers and other adults around you just don’t understand what your life is like?  Well, here is an opportunity to let them know what’s really going on.  On Tuesday, April 26, after sit-down dinner, all students will have the opportunity to take a survey that addresses attitudes and life experiences and touches on issues such as self esteem, stress, integrity, sexual behavior and substance abuse.  Called the Independent School Health Check, it is a 20-minute online questionnaire; it is the same survey we administered two years ago. We expect the results of this survey to be helpful as we plan and evaluate the various wellness initiatives from the Health Center and the Dean’s Office.  This year the same survey will be administered by Andover, Exeter, St. Paul’s, Choate, NMH, Lawrenceville and Hotchkiss, so we will be able to compare ourselves to the aggregate results of other large and competitive schools. Participation is voluntary. You can skip any questions you prefer not to answer.  Students who do not wish to take the survey will be excused from doing so.  It is important to note that all survey responses will be completely anonymous. All results will go directly to the consultants who designed the survey.  No one from Deerfield will see individual responses or be able to associate any student with any completed survey. This is a great opportunity for you to tell the faculty and the administration what is going on in your lives. We believe this survey will supply us with useful information that will inform our curriculum planning and help us prepare to serve the needs of Deerfield students. Parents who have any questions or comments about the survey, or who do not want their child to complete the survey, should contact Mr. Emerson or Dr. Hagamen.
