Spring Theater Production “Plays” on Shakespeare

May 25, 2010  |  Deerfield’s spring theater production, Good Night Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet), opens Tuesday, May 25 at 7pm in the Reid Black Box Theater. The play, written by Anne-Marie MacDonald, is a rollicking comedy that revises Shakespeare’s Othello and Romeo and Juliet. It features a cast and crew of 16, and runs May 25, 26, 28 at 7pm; May 27 at 7:30pm; and May 29 at 4pm.

A delightfully mousy academic, the character of Constance Ledbelly claims that Othello and Romeo and Juliet were originally comedies written by an unknown author. She is mysteriously transported into the world of the plays, thus saving Desdemona and Juliet from their deaths. The play abounds with satirical observations on love and sex, sword fights, cross-dressing, scholarship, and William Shakespeare.
